Two years ago, I ran an experiment.
On the Digital Rapport® Podcast, I manually created an AI interview. At the time, I used Jasper which was essentially an ai writing tool and I wrote a full list of questions to ask the AI. I copied its answers, ran them through a voice generator (Well Said), recorded myself asking the questions, chopped up the AI responses in audio software, and stitched everything together into a Q&A-style podcast.
It worked.
But it was a lot of work.
And honestly? It was more of a creative experiment than anything scalable.
Fast forward to today… and everything has changed.
From Manual Experiment to Intelligent Interviewer
In this episode, I decided to test something new: Digital Rapport AI.
Instead of me interviewing the AI…
The AI interviewed me.
Here’s what makes this different.
Digital Rapport AI allows you to:
- Identify or input trending topics
- Define the angle and strategic direction
- Choose the tone and interview style
- Let the AI conduct a conversational Q&A with you
- Automatically generate a structured article from your responses
It doesn’t just transcribe.
It listens, adapts, and shapes your ideas into thought leadership content.
The Topic: Why Emotional Intelligence Builds Systems AI Cannot Touch
For this session, I chose a topic close to my heart:
Why emotional intelligence builds systems AI cannot touch.
The AI began asking thoughtful, layered questions — not surface-level prompts, but deeper explorations about:
- What makes emotional intelligence distinctly human
- Whether AI can truly replicate empathy
- The ethical dimensions of emotional judgment
- The future of leadership in an AI-driven world
It even referenced Daniel Goleman’s definition of emotional intelligence something I studied years ago at university:
The ability to monitor your own and others’ emotions and use that information to guide thinking and behavior.
But what struck me wasn’t just the content.
It was how the AI adapted in real time to my responses.

The Core Insight: AI Can Mimic, But It Cannot Experience
One of the key themes that emerged during the conversation was this:
AI works on data sets, patterns, and programming.
Humans operate from lived experience.
As humans, we regulate emotions in real time. We read tone, body language, micro-expressions, context, and history. We operate from both logic and emotion what I often describe as the left and right hemispheres of the brain working together.
AI can recognize patterns of anger.
But it doesn’t feel anger.
It doesn’t understand the backstory behind it.
It doesn’t carry lived moral weight.
There is a difference between simulation and authentic experience.
That authenticity gap is where emotional intelligence becomes irreplaceable.
The Star Trek Principle: Collaboration Over Replacement
At one point, I referenced something I genuinely believe.
I’m a Star Trek fan.
In Star Trek, the computer provides vast data and analysis but the captain makes the final call. The human intuition. The gut instinct. The moral judgment.
That’s the future I see.
Not humans versus AI.
Humans with AI.
A partnership.
What I call Digital Rapport® man and machine working side by side for the collective good.
AI enhances efficiency.
Humans provide intuition, ethics, empathy, and creativity.
That combination is powerful.
Then Something Remarkable Happened
After the interview ended, I clicked “Complete Interview.”
Within seconds:
- The full Q&A was structured on screen.
- The AI analysed the conversation.
- It crafted a full thought leadership article.
- It pulled supporting references.
- It suggested strategic framing.
- It even generated an image.
And then?
I clicked “Publish.”
The article was pushed directly to my WordPress site.
Categorized.
Tagged.
Shared to social media.
Two years ago, I manually stitched together an AI podcast for fun.
Now, AI interviewed me, crafted the content, formatted it, and published it — in minutes.
That shift is monumental.
Why This Matters
This isn’t about outsourcing thinking.
It’s about amplifying it.
The content was still mine:
- My voice
- My ideas
- My perspective
- My experiences
The AI simply helped extract and structure it efficiently.
This is where AI becomes a thought leadership accelerator — not a replacement for human depth.
The Bigger Question
As AI advances, emotional intelligence becomes more valuable, not less.
In a world of automation:
- Empathy becomes differentiation.
- Intuition becomes strategy.
- Ethics become leadership.
- Human connection becomes currency.
Organizations that cultivate emotional intelligence alongside AI capability will lead.
Not because they resist technology.
But because they integrate it wisely.
Final Thoughts
I’m still slightly mesmerised by how quickly this all happened.
But the real takeaway isn’t the speed.
It’s the partnership.
We don’t need to give everything over to AI.
We need to build digital rapport where technology enhances human capability rather than replacing it.
That’s the future I’m interested in.
